Microsoft Edge fails to open

The problem occurs after a Windows Feature upgrade to version 20H2

Option 1 - Try repairing Microsoft Edge

  1. Click SETTINGS, APPS
  2. Search for EDGE
  3. Click MICROSOFT EDGE
  4. Click MODIFY
  5. Click YES to download update. A fresh new copy of MICROSOFT EDGE will be reinstalled

Option 2 - Disable SmartScreen

To turn SmartScreen on or off in the new Microsoft Edge:

  1. Select Settings and more > Settings > Privacy & services
  2. Scroll down to Services, and turn Microsoft Defender SmartScreen on or off

Is SmartScreen different from Pop-up Blocker?

Yes. SmartScreen checks the sites you visit and the files you download for threats to your security. Whereas Pop-up Blocker just blocks most pop-ups, which are usually advertisements and aren't necessarily malicious.
